Press Room: Press Release
Discounted Telephone Service for Low-Income Households
Rancho Cucamonga (May 17, 2006) – Inland Empire United Way (IEUW) is collaborating with Richard Heath & Associates, Inc to raise awareness of a program that provides discounted telephone services to low-income households. LifeLine Telephone Services connects individuals to family, friends, job opportunities, and emergency services.
Thousands of households qualify for LifeLine and don't know
it. There are several discounted telephone services options
available to customers with basic service for less than $6 each
month.
“The discounts offered by LifeLine allows low-income families to
use the money they save to cover other expenses such as rent,
utilities, and gas” said Gary Madden, 211 Director. “We are
excited for people to take advantage of this money-saving
opportunity and get involved with our other Inland Empire United
Way programs like 2-1-1.”
LifeLine benefits even those whose service has been disconnected. Eligibility for the discounted telephone service is based on household size and on annual income. To verify eligibility, individuals are encouraged to call (866) 272-0349 toll free. To receive the benefit, they should say they were referred by Inland Empire United Way.
2-1-1 is a toll-free number that connects people from anywhere in San Bernardino County to a 24-hour service that provides information and referrals for health and social services in their area. Inland Empire United Way (IEUW) is the designated 2-1-1 service provider for the San Bernardino County. IEUW is a community partner that develops collaborations with nonprofits in an effort to streamline service delivery, leverage available resources, maximize contributions, and eliminate service duplication in the IEUW’s service area, which covers regions of Los Angeles, San Bernardino, and Riverside counties.
